Teams from Security Buyer International and Defence Buyer International magazines were in attendance at DSEI UK, held at London’s ExCeL centre last week, witnessing one of the biggest editions yet of the biennial defence and security equipment show.
DSEI UK 2025 ran from 9–12 September, bringing together more than 1,500 exhibitors and tens of thousands of attendees from across more than 90 countries. The event focused on emerging threats, innovation across domains, and ways defence and security sectors are adapting in an ever-evolving global landscape.
A key theme throughout was Preparing the Future Force, emphasising how defence systems must evolve with agility, resilience, and increased integration of technology. DSEI UK’s forums and speaker panels included senior military leaders, government representatives, and industry innovators covering everything from AI, cyber security, and digitalisation to space technology and international security cooperation.
Another major talking point was the support and visibility given to SMEs and new entrants. The UK Pavilion and dedicated areas for smaller firms displayed early-stage innovations and start-up solutions, often crossing over from sectors like automotive, energy, or consumer tech. Several exhibitors used the platform to explore export partnerships, while international delegations sought suppliers and collaborators.
Tech zones and new exhibition areas offered a deep dive into cross-domain capability. The ‘Tech Zone’ showcased innovations in AI and cyber security; the ‘Space Zone’ highlighted developments in space defence; meanwhile, live and static land, sea, waterborne displays provided a hands-on sense of modern military hardware and systems.
Outside of product launches, many conversations centered on strategic partnering — with governments, ministries of defence, industry, academia — underscoring how collaboration is becoming a critical driver of capability. Decision-makers at DSEI spoke often about how procurement, policy, and industrial strategy must align if new technologies are to be adopted at scale and safely.
For Security Buyer International and Defence Buyer International readers in infrastructure, emergency planning, and manufacturing, the show made two things clear: security and defence innovation are accelerating, and staying ahead means engaging now. From emerging tech to policy shifts, the pressure is shifting from what might be done in the future to what must be done today.
