The September/October issue of International Logistics Buyer is now available. The issue brings together industry insight, interviews and analysis exploring the challenges and opportunities shaping logistics, freight and international trade.

As global supply chains continue to adjust to changing trade requirements, rising operational pressures and rapid technological development, the latest issue examines how businesses can build greater visibility, resilience and control into their operations.

The issue also looks ahead to the Retail Supply Chain & Logistics Expo, taking place at ExCeL London on 11 and 12 November. The event will bring together businesses, technology providers and logistics professionals to discuss the future of retail supply chains. The Logistics Buyer team will be exhibiting at stand R1572.

Navigating an everchanging landscape

Leading the September/October issue is the Big Interview with Anna Doherty, Technical Director at the Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade. Doherty examines the changing customs landscape and explains why businesses are having to reconsider the role of trade compliance.

Technology and innovation are also central to the issue. Steve Williams, Managing Director of Nippon Express in the UK and Ireland, joins Logistics Buyer for The Innovator interview, discussing the company’s approach to artificial intelligence, automation and visibility. He also considers the technologies that could have the greatest influence on logistics operations in the coming years.

The issue’s cover story with Yusen Logistics explores how evolving supply chain strategies can help businesses respond to new pressures and changing customer requirements.

In the latest column, Steve Parker, Director General of the British International Freight Association, discusses the challenges facing international freight. He speaks on why freight forwarders need a stronger voice in shaping the policies governing an uncertain global trading environment.

Elsewhere, the Product Spotlight from WCAworld shares how they are connecting independent freight forwarders around the world. Having spent almost three decades developing its international network, WCAworld provides members with access to global partnerships, coverage and practical support across an increasingly complex logistics landscape.

Technology, visibility and operational control

Digital capability runs throughout the September/October issue, with a series of features examining how technology is changing logistics operations.

The Logistics Software feature considers how greater integration between systems is creating a more continuous flow of information from order through to final delivery. It explores the role software can play in improving visibility, efficiency and operational control across increasingly complex supply chains. Cybersecurity is also under the spotlight as logistics businesses become more connected. The feature examines the vulnerabilities created by fragmented systems, ageing devices and poorly governed access.

Digital Transformation Strategies looks at how investment in technology can improve the movement of cargo through the wider supply chains. It also considers what businesses should expect from technology providers beyond capability alone as digital systems become increasingly fundamental.

The Procurement and Cost Control feature examines how smarter purchasing decisions and closer management of expenditure can help logistics businesses protect margins while maintaining reliability, capacity and operational performance. Finally, Track and Trace explores how real time identification, inventory visibility, asset tracking and operational analytics are helping businesses turn logistics data into practical decisions. The feature considers how greater visibility can support operations across warehouses, freight facilities and cargo networks.

Together the September/October issue demonstrates an industry in which better information, stronger partnerships and smarter decision making are becoming important.
