A challenging year in security

The year got off to a bright and sunny start with the first major show of the year in Dubai with Intersec 2020 being well attended by security and industry professionals alike from across the globe.

The event was held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and opened its doors to the latest security safety solutions and three days of agenda-setting discussion, as global industry sources tip the Middle East security sector for 10% annual growth over the next two years.

As one of the media partners of the event, members of Security Buyer, Security News Desk and Hand Media International were all on hand to see the comings and goings take place first-hand.

It was also an opportunity to meet face to face leading figures in the security industry and to assist the organisers in moderating two of the many live panel discussions involving expert from a variety of fields and specialisms.

This also included a live Q+A session at the end of each event where members of the audience were able to quiz the experts and ask them about the topic that had been under discussion in a more a bit more depth and afterwards to chat or arrange to meet afterwards.

Members of the team were also on hand to taker park in various interviews with, a number of, leading exhibitors and to become involved in other Q+A sessions which were filmed by our professional film crew.

Among the companies and organisations that were involved included Seagate, Spinnaker, HM Government, Net App who were among some of the more than 1,100 exhibitors from 56 countries who were in attendance at the event.

“As the region’s premier show for commercial security, fire protection and safety, Intersec plays a crucial role in shaping the future of these industries,” said HH Sheikh Mansoor. “Protecting our people and assets is a principal responsibility for the UAE and with the Expo 2020 fast-approaching, the implementation of new best practices and technology will solidify the UAE’s position as a leader in security.”

However, since that impressive start to the year the entire globe has been stuck down by a virus that has stopped all global events from taking place and for organisers to either reschedule those events of postpone them for another time to be finalised.

Covid-19 effects the Security industry

In an unprecedented turn of global events, the security industry find itself at the forefront of a global pandemic, known as Covid-19 or Coronavirus.

This has led to the rescheduling of one of the biggest security industry events in Las Vegas, ISC West, but this does not mean that it will not be taking place as a new date has already been arranged and that will be July 20-22 at the Sands Expo centre.

Following the announcement of the change of date for ISC West, Will Wise, Group VP – Reed Exhibitions, said: “This is not a decision we have taken lightly; our customers, partners and staff have worked diligently to create an ISC West experience for the industry across converged security innovations, public safety best practices and strong community collaboration.”

In addition to ISC West, now occurring in July at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, ISC East will occur as scheduled November 18-19 at the Javits Center in New York City, along with Premier Sponsor SIA and in partnership with ASIS NYC.

No matter when these events take place Security Buyer, Security News Desk and Hand Media International will be on hand to bring our readers and subscribers all the latest news from the events when they take place.
